Honda Recalls Civic Sedan for Possible Drive Shaft Problem

June 12, 2012 | By Jerry Hirsch –,

Honda Motor Co. said it will recall approximately 50,000 model-year 2012 Civic passenger cars in the U.S. to inspect the left drive shaft.

The automaker said the driver’s side drive shaft in some Civics might not have been properly assembled, potentially allowing it to separate from a joint while the car is being operated.

If that happened, the engine would no longer propel the vehicle in any gear, and the vehicle might roll away if the parking brake has not been set when the gear selector has been placed in the park position, increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury, according to Honda.
